Why do nikkas stan promoters/managers as if they get a cut from it? This is Showtime's fall schedule, does this look like they got money to throw around in the 4th quarter?
Showtime’s fall line-up is coming together
Look for this heavyweight match-up, which will be on pay-per-view, to take place sometime in mid-November or early-December.
This means that the much-bandied welterweight hook-up between IBF beltholder Errol Spence Jr. and four-division champion Mikey Garcia will be tabled for 2018.
That said, do Spence and Garcia (who both fought in the summer) take tune-up/stay-busy bouts in the meantime?
“Everything is still on the table but I would think that’s unlikely,” said Espinoza, who added, “As much talking has been done and, in particular, as focused as Mikey is on this opportunity, I don’t think there’s a lot of other options which are going to be considered. Mikey has been really clear – he wants big, big fights. And I understand, at his age, with his level of achievement, I can imagine he wants those challenges. So I don’t think he’s really interested in a stay-busy fight.”
So looking ahead, the Showtime schedule includes a broadcast from the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, that will feature the vacant WBC welterweight title scrap between Shawn Porter and Danny Garcia, on September 8, then two other “ShoBox” dates (on the 21st and 28th) later that month featuring lightweights Jon Fernandez and Devin Haney. “Then we’ll stay out of the way in October, stay out of the traffic,” said Espinoza, whose network, like many others, understands that appeal of college football in autumn.
Showtime will make space for the female middleweight championship unification fight featuring Claressa Shields and Christina Hammer.
“So across that, between Garcia-Porter, two really strong ShoBoxs, arguably the most significant women’s fight in a least a decade and the Wilder-Fury pay-per-view, it’s a really good range and variety of fights,” said Espinoza.
“You’ve got a little of something for everybody before the end of the year.”
