Daz thinks everyone owes him money. He's so fukking annoying. I don't think he has the money to box with Hov lol.
This here.
Daz is my guy, but he's reaching. He wants bread for the kinda sh*t he never paid other MC's for. Him and Kurupt have done the same sh*t that Jay and every other rapper has done. Everyone takes lines and flips them. That's just a part of the culture. But when Jay does it, people want him to pay their bills because of where he sits financially. It's corny.
actually he does. if you check the credits of R Kelly's double album R, on the song "We Ride" when Norea used 2 snoop bars from "gin and juice" they had to clear that in the credits. I saw the mini documentary about "thong song" and Sisquo saying "livin la vida loca" caused him to sign over a piece of the song to Ricky Martin. So whether you like Daz or not, he has a case. I think it's stupid, but it's the law of sampling. If Biggie's estate really wanted to go after Jay Z, they literally own a small piece of Jay Z's catalog. Those are the dangers of the music business.
Still Dre isn’t Jay’s song though. If anyone would have to pay it’d be Dre or InterscopeDaz has a case. We may not like it, but there is a lot of precedent for having to pay someone for using even a part of a lyric. Montel Jordan talked about having to pay for re-singing portions of lyrics as his own on his song Payback off his first album, to the tune of 17 samples. Sisqo talked about the Livin La Vida Loca lyric and having to pay for that, and Trinidad James of all people and the Gap Band getting credited as writers on Uptown Funk. So Daz is in the right here, legally.
it would effect all of their publishing. All of the writers in the song Daz is referring to would get a piece of "still dre" if he pursued it in court. That means Dre, Storch, and Jay would get a smaller percentage.Still Dre isn’t Jay’s song though. If anyone would have to pay it’d be Dre or Interscope
