Royce the only dude I ever heard go toe to toe with Eminem not just on one track but every track they did together.

Bad meets Evil dont get the credit it deserves. shyt was fire.

Them not doing another album is criminal to me, especially when they've done multiple songs together since then.

"Lyrically" is an overused and misused word. Royce aint that bar heavy like that...he's just a fantastic amazing rhymer, the multis and internals and all that are top notch. What he's actually saying tho be butt a lot of times. Him and Eminem are like Ken and Ryu imo, almost identical skill sets but Eminem delivery/voice/whiteness/flow sets him apart

Daylyt does that too...super-rhyming and not really saying anything...or forcing reachy ass wordplay.. Daylyt is great tho, better than Eminem and Royce imo, bar wise.

Perfectly said!

Exactly how I feel. Royce has the two main styles. One where he gets on the super bar heavy shyt like Eminem where he's just rhyming whatever words together to make the shyt sound good but it doesn't really be saying anything. The rhyme patterns will be insane though as well as the flow.

The other style is where he's actually trying to tell a story or paint a picture at which point his bars get real simple and the flow is usually dumbed down to go with it. The music comes out sounding better when he does that and he's solid at painting a picture but just on some pure MC shyt he ain't killing shyt the way he does with the other style.

Prime Em I felt is one of the best ever at being able to mesh those two styles of being able to get the crazy rhyme schemes, flow and just lyrics in general while still telling a story. But Em ain't been consistent in like 15 years and seemed to have lost the ability to really rhyme on beat. So all time I'd vote Em as better lyrically but today I'd have Royce.

Royce is more refined while Em is way too technical. Not sure if someone likes that lyrical miracle stuff all the time but I rather listen to Royce more. His older songs still sound good today.

Mannnn this was my shyt, I actually went into the store and bought this single at the mall, I think it was “I’m the King” on the A side if I’m not mistaken…I went in there to buy something else but that’s neither here nor there lol, I knew Royce from killing the shyts with Eminem and had to cop it. Good times man. Wish Royce did more joints like this…he was on some Ras Kass shyt on here…he’s overly syllabic for the sake of the actual lyrics now

Underrated track.

And I feel like that's Royce on an incline, and Em on a Decline post hiatus, and they still made me rewind that shyt a million times.

I'll give the edge to Royce right now, Em overall. stll feel like Em is the better song writer in his prime but Royce has improved. Ken/Ryu is a perfect analogy.

I like a lot of Royce’s older and newer music. He’s like a complete artist.

Im not shocked at all. He reminds me of Gayme. Yeah he's talented, but he desperately needs a producer with a chorus already given to him.

I prefer old Royce over new Royce. And thats why I said as a rapper, Royce is better than a lot of ppl. He's better than Wayne, Snoop, Nas, Black Thought and a lot of other top rappers. Why dwell on Eminem?:jbhmm:

Eminem was always more entertaining than Royce. Now Royce probably is better than Eminem tho. So what. What does that prove? Royce is better than Jay now.

Em & Royce might be the same with the skill set they both hold. Em is obviously more “entertaining” cause of the stuff he says in his music. He’s more of a MC that cracks jokes to other people. Like a comedian. Royce sometimes has that factor but not as much as Em, that’s why people might call him “boring” or whatever they want to call it.

Royce raps a lot of pro black shyt, he's going to get the edge over em just for that. Royce is a better rapper rn. But he's better than a lot of greats. Not just Eminem. But Royce has never put together 1 album that was better than the best 2 Em albums. Or songs on oar with Ems best

That’s because he never had the resources Em had. His production always lacked. But his albums he made with DJ Premier is his best produced albums as of right now. Royce just started to put pro black content in his albums, it wasn’t always in his earlier stuff.

Me too…he is a weird dude lol. On one end he seems like he’s just 100% about Multis and doesn’t even care about the actual bars he’s saying (see the Lupe diss and the radio freestyles for example)…then at the same time he’ll give you a “Cocaine”…just an amazing amazing song that’s 100% all about what he is saying and the song itself, shyt is musically excellent and lyrically excellent. If he could find a way to marry both those styles he’ll reach his final form, 😳. Then he may wanna revisit the Lupe challenge, 😆…he damn sure ain’t ready yet

Banks and Royce are madd similar to me…I preferred “Hunger For More” Banks over what he turned into when he updated/changed his style and became just overly rhymey and multiy and started saying a bunch of random nothing that just sounds dope. Banks, like Royce, has the ability to make just great songs too when that’s what he wants to do…he attributes that part of his artistry to 50…he needs to tap into that more imo

This is a perfect example of how Royce takes Eminem's style and makes it work, smoothing it out with the flow while still having bars. Eminem was yelling all the time back then, and some of his lines sound really corny because of the additional emphasis on them ("What part you don't get?! I'M SAYING I DIE HARD!").

Better lyricist? It maybe a tie honestly

Both are very technical but Em can also weave punches and metaphors into rhymes while Royce isn’t much of a punchline and metaphor rapper

Royce flow is smoother when he’s ON he’s ON

At their peaks both are bout on an even playing field
