Letterman was and is The King of Late Night and for all the years Leno beat him in the ratings, Jay never mattered as much as Dave.

And if you don't know, there would be no Jay Leno on The Tonight Show if it wasn't for him becoming a star guest on Late Night with David Letterman in the 80's. Carson wasn't fukkin with Jay like that until he got hot on Dave's NBC show, the same show that changed comedy and the show that influenced a generation of talk shows (The Daily Show, Conan's Late Night, Colbert Report, Jimmy Kimmel Live, even Fallon to a degree).

Anybody that was born in the late 80's like me really missed Dave's golden era but I did catch a lot of the CBS shows growing up. And they don't compare to the YouTube clips I've watched of NBC-era Dave. If you're a fan of that brand of ironic, sarcastic humor that he popularized, Conan was likely your guy growing up.
