I don't think white people are ready to witness General Dessalines ripping fetuses out of pregnant white women, sticking them on a pike, and parading them down the streets of Port Au Prince.....

So brutal... So gruesome :wow:

In the Silver Lining
movie has been on the drawing boards by Glover for at least 7 years..... Mos Def was supposed to have been apart of it back then ....................... wonder where Tyler Perry and Oprah were at? or if he even went to them for funding ............ :beli:

Every major battle/war in history has wild aspects to it ...... but if you really want to capture some attention then he would be smart to include a segment that shows Simon Bolivar coming to Haiti to recover from loosing a bunch of battles in South America to fight off the Spanish colonists....... after chopping it up with Toussaint, dude went back to South America and kicked the Spanish out of South America , and he is known as the George Washington of South America ........ how many people know that????

Ok nevermind it was actually the Alexandre Petion who gave Bolivar sanctuary .... nevermind :lupe: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexandre_Pétion

I cant really throw shade at Oprah, she did put doe behind Precious and The Butler but she did help finance The Great Debaters. I'm glad to see this is finally coming out.

Of course he went back and didn't quite free the black slaves......... :patrice: ....... but I guess he really was on his George Washington steeze. :laugh : ... still, it would be astute to showcase that event in this movie ...

Not a bad idea, kinda show how different events were interconnected. It'd be an interesting look into the politics of the time.

I was wrong though, Toussaint had already been taken to France, by the time Simon Bolivar came through, at least that's what I'm seeing .http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simón_Bolívar...... :snoop: ....but still some interesting history that Simon Bolivar came to Haiti and got re-energized which led to eventual defeat of the Spanish on the South American continent..

It ain't dead... I'm tellin you, it's more alive than ever!!! Scary part is that it's usually hidden but coming into light more and more!

"Where are the white heroes?" nikka, :pacspit:

it's coming into light because whites were comfortable peddling a lie of post-racial reconciliation that many - if not all - blacks accepted after the civil rights era. the election of obama only made whites begin to :beli: at the idea that blacks were actually truly equals in this society, making them become more open with their racial hostility. the more honest black america is about how it feels about racism in this country, the more hostile whites will become, and i don't see anything else but full blown racial conflict being the result. bring it on.

TBH I believe Haiti would have been better off being occupied by the French :manny: Once we got our independence we started turning on each other .

A hungry dog will eat its owner.

When the world at large shuns you, isolates you trying to suffocate you-- poverty begins.

In a country of poverty, to those within, priority then becomes survival of self. Human nature at that point pits brother against brother. point a Kalashnikov and kill one another:manny:

The revolution wasn't a bad idea, its just that they should have never betrayed Toussaint. shyt, I'll never understand how all them dudes could gang up and turn on the Nikka(Toussaint) with the plan. You never turn on the dude with the plan :heh: Once they betrayed Toussaint and handed him to the French, They all started turning on each other. Everybody wanted to be king. shyt, The French reveres Toussaint much more than Haitians do.
