explain breh, why cant dark and dreary be musical?

It can....some of my favorite albums are "dark": me against the world, makeveli, it's dark and hell is hot, fetch the bolt cutters. But they still have melodies or a "groove" to them. It's music after all.

Think Kendricks" Promise you'll sing about me"...that's a sad ass record or "All I got is you" by Ghostface....both sad/depressing but there is melodies, singing, flows, patterns, etc.

To be fair to Danny (who I think is dope btw), I only listen to the first 3 songs.

Danny Brown having two of the better projects in 2023 should be an indictment on everyone else, but Danny really did his thing this year.
And they almost feel like complimentary pieces. Scaring The Hoes is pure energy, manic, frenetic fukkery. And then Quarantra is like the contemplative come down.

Love the album the more I listen, and one of the few records I've thought about a lot. Not sure where I put it in his catalog but it's great.

This a great album. Introspective lyrics, GREAT production, and good album length. Also I loved his hooks on this album. I wonder did he come up with these hooks himself or did he have some help crafting them? Anyway Danny was lowkey MVP of 2023, he had 2 of the best releases of the year

This was recorded during the pandemic lockdown, so he probably came up with the hooks by himself in the alone time and that's why the music sounds the way it does. I remember Celibate was him saying he wanted to take a stab at Cam'ron's style of flipping one phrase multiple times in a row.

Took me awhile to get to this but already seems like his most cohesive effort

Not surprised by this. He picked the perfect word to flip because you can use “celibate“ a bunch of different ways

CD just came in (late) so I gave this another spin. Another great album from him.
