Everywhere in the third world is pretty much like this. Go anywhere from Jamaica and Trinidad to Kenya to Oman to India to Mongolia to Laos. About 1/3 of the world's population doesn't even have access to a toilet.

I've had a girl friend who was raped there. I also had another women friend be detained for hours by the police for no other reason than try and extort a bribe or worse. She eventually was allowed to leave.
I've had other friends who have visited/backpacked/worked there without issue....
It's not worth it imo.

You're right it's only the poor in India but I don't think these countries have the magnitude of poor Indian has or else to the degree India does. The very poorest Indians don't have toilets, are cramped in and lack sanitation so sometimes waste leaks into rivers. There's also a lack of medical and healthcare for the very poorest. It's very sad. The first poster here is ignorant and probably a cac like cacmamba
