Friend, lets not make philisophical statements that encompass an entire life when we know in our heart that ultimately we have plans for family at some point in our lives.
you're right about that.

that's why i focus on my job and advancement to keep making more money and keep my debts at a minimum while still enjoying life :blessed:

i feel you....idk if you know..but when i changed jobs last spring, i was super stressed and depressed, it is well documented on the coli via threads lol.....i dont fear being laid off anymore....just bounce back and realize that NOTHING is promised and make lasting memories...

that change made me realize that this cookie cutter life is for the birds...so i just save up and been traveling when i can and doing new stuff even if it is normal to most people like hiking, tubing, etc

that bar and club every weekend is wack and what i spent on that could have been a flight so that's what i do now :win:
my nukka i had the exact same revelation of life becuz of a job i got late last year. i lasted for 9 months and it became the 1st job i ever just walked out on. the job prevented me from doing everything i loved doing in my personal time(sports, working out, playing my ps3, etc). on top of that it was a nightshift job. and then on top of all of that they had this thing where they would keep ppl to work overtime for another shift with NO NOTICE. this happened frequently, so literally every night i went in to work i didnt know if i was gonna be working for 8hrs or 16hrs. i was so miserable and depressed fam. that job made me hate my existance. i couldnt enjoy the Super Bowl, NCAA Tournament or the NBA Finals becuz of this job. after i quit i acquired a new outlook on life. i realized that there are millions of ppl out there living a cookie cutter type life becuz of a job that they hate and takes joy out of their personal life. i will never allow myself to be in that situation again. i finaly get that saying that says homeless ppl have more freedom than ppl working 9-5's

So here is the deal about money, debt, and happiness.

Ultimately you have to decide what makes you happy first. Forget about debt/expectations/responsibilities for a moment. You have to pinpoint what is making you unhappy if you are. I have been trying to explain this to some people, but unfortunately most do not get it and just focus everything on money. BTW this is coming from someone who no kids, but can be adjusted depending on your living situation.

Happiness
Obviously this depends on the person. The first thing you should do is count all the things you have to do on a daily basis from the very basics, check all 7 days.

The typical work week:
Wake up, shower, get dressed, go to work, go home, shower, free time, sleep - That outline is probably 95% of the population right there outside of having to account for time driving your kids to work or some other arrangement.

Off Days:
Laundry, going out with friends/family/gf/whatever, Video Games, Music, side job or whatever else you do.

There are several constants...things you cannot change.
Sleep and Work account for 15-16+ hours of the 24 hours of the day
Shower, getting ready probably takes you about an hour in total
Cooking/Eating probably takes up another hour

That is about 18 hours of your day automatically washed and there is almost nothing you can do to change it unless you come from great wealth. You have to prioritize these things and I usually do it in terms of time consumed.

Work (Hard to reduce, need to pay bills, eats up the most of your hours awake almost guaranteed)
Shower/Getting Ready (Don't be dirty, unavoidable)
Cooking/Eating (Can be reduced in half if you order out/drive through)

So what is the most ideal thing to cut or fix? Work, it takes up about half of your time awake and if you hate your job...well chances are you are going to get off work and STILL think about your job. So what is your excuse for staying at your job? Is it money? I will post about money later if someone is interested.
