Rey was the least of the issues. They wrote her character terribly. And Finn,
Last Jedi destroyed the franchise. Force Awakens wasn't that bad, but after you see the the OG Star Wars Ep 4, you just
Last Jedi should've been the movie to make everyone :ohh: ...instead it became
And the sad part is George picked Kathleen to steer the ship. She fukked it all the way up having no plan. How the fukk do you just say "WING IT"
Believe it or not I attribute most of the ST flaws to the rey character itself. Most of the fukk ups with direction, themeatics, the roles of other characters are because of Rey, the others because of KK and the dumb idea to switch directors.
They wanted to heavy handedly make Rey the titular character of the series and of course you know why. But they decided to execute it through cheap feats, shytting on fans and burying the characters & themes of the past. Just to make her look powerful. That was a creative direction that just oozes into every poor decision in the movies
Making finn a buffoon = to make Rey look more competent
Kylo being an underwhelming villain = because he had to be defeated in every encouter to maintain rey's strength
Reviving palpatine = no villians were built up properly because above
Destoryed force lore = attempt to retcon why Rey is absurdly talented in the force between directors
Palpatine having a grand daughter = attempt to retcon the previous director's attempt to retcon why Rey is absurdly talented in the force between directors
No EU = admittedly the least related but it includes many other force users and more skywalkers which doesn't lend itself well for rehashing ANH with Rey as the lone hope of the universe
Burying Luke = result of destroying the force lore, No EU and the lack of credible villians to actually slay him.
Like when you look at the obviously clusterfukked elements of the ST (story, switching directors, the universe....the important shyt) vs the very intentional and executed ones (Marketing) its all pretty much in line with what you would expect when The Mouse is given the reins to anything.
Marketing/agendas vs substance is the exact state of affairs that has been burying BSPN in the past decade.
the proof is in the pudding
