Saw that on that Macho Man doc on the network. Didn’t know.

That shyt could’ve been epic. :wow:

Savage vs. DDP was arguably the best feud of the 90’s. Savage vs. HBK had GOAT feud potential.

Why Vince didn’t let us eat?
Because in his genius mind, Savage was too old to still wrestle. That feud would’ve made HBK a lot sooner and went a long way in establishing him as a superstar.

Vince's relationship with and feelings toward Randy seem very confused at the end. He didn't want Randy working programs on TV, yet whenever something came up he always turned to Randy to work with guys on the house show circuit.

Speaking on the debut episode of his podcast 'The Genius Cast', Poffo said how his brother was unhappy as a commentator, and wanted to return to competition, and saw Shawn as the ideal opponent.

"I remember he called me up at 2 in the morning... and he said, 'can you find some breakaway champagne bottles?' So I said 'yeah, I can do that'.""His plan was to toast to Shawn Michaels' career, he would pour a drink, they would toast and then they would drink and then Randy would smash the bottle over Shawn Michaels' head, starting a two-year feud ending in WrestleMania, where Shawn Michaels loses his hair if he loses, and Randy returns to the announcing table if he loses."

Despite this being a quintessential dream match, the company felt that Savage was too old in 1993 when he was 40.

"So what happened? Pat Patterson says, 'well Randy, we're having a youth movement and the best thing you can do is to stay on the microphone.'"
Poffo said how this decision was what fueled Savage to join WCW, which he did in December 1994.

Would've been one of the GOAT feuds, IMO.

EDIT: I added a better version of their match from England in '92.

And here's the one from Germany

That would be in the same time period as a lot of the HBK vs Bret stuff, so we would've missed out on that

I'd rather have that and all the fukkery its given us over the years than HBK vs Savage as a long term feud

I LIVE IN A CARDBOARD BOX!
Vince: "Goddamn, pal. Nobody wants to see Randy wrestle. He's too old."
Randy: *goes to WCW and has a feud with DDP that wins PWI's Feud of the Year and puts Dallas over like million bucks*

Even people who were a fan of wrestling for only a few years still remember DDP. That's what Randy would've done for HBK.

Thanks, Randy. :salute:
