Oh no, my bad. I meant to quote Broletariat's first post. Not yours.
I was going to respond to it as well (thought it was aimed at me). I agree. The nature of how the grant system works almost guarantees some fukkery, but that's just the way it is. There are a few valves in academia to prevent institutional corruption, but when it comes to that corporate backing :scusthov:

Nah. Unlike the U.S they can change their policies overnight, they only have 1 party, no vetos. They'll have the number 1 economy in the world for sure, but this will be the first time in history the largest economy in the world doesn't have the superpower status. They are culturally, socially and militarily decades behind the U.S.

They lack global leadership aspirations and still have an inferiority complex. Innovation is also a big problem since critical free thinking is not promoted.

We got to stop with this shyt. As someone who went to school with a lot of chinese, for grad and undergrad stem degree, and have some as co workers now that sentiment is just not true. labeling a whole race of people as smart is just silly, intelligence is distributed among the chinese just as any other race.

the Chinese who I've worked with are all fukking wizards at math. But like you said there's a normal distribution of intelligence like any race.

The question is, will that 1 party make the right policy changes? Can that 1 party fight decades of confusion? Can that 1 party properly navigate the rapid changes the country is going through?

I'm thinking, just off their problems with intellectual property (both in creating and dealing with it), their environment and human rights, nah. Sure they have the power to change things in an instant, but with no opposition they often have no reason to.
