'The Truth' is solid, has some real standouts, but as an album...it's not very cohesive, has very little common threads, or flow, the last half goes real dark, and the middle is kinda middle of the road Roc commercial tracks, 'The Reason' had the same flaws, but I though the standouts were just as good, and the missteps more listenable, and there was more of flow to the music.
.

yea i always thought he underachieved when it came to making albums, until B.Coming

its very rare in hip hop for a guys 3rd album to be his best, and imo its not close. he wrote great songs and picked the best beats of his career, Solution was solid it was patchy like his first 2

i was going to cop This Time as long as it had 5-6 bangers, but fukk that shyt is horrible. dont understand how he made Kush Dreaming and then picked all those wack beats

I basically attributed it to a misguided attempt at addressing his financial troubles. Like he said, "Ok what I'll do is make a Grown n Sexy album with records geared towards the radio but if challenged about selling out I can always kick some bullshyt about progressing musically & appeasing my core fan base who is now older."

Thing is that it's shows just how out of touch Beans/Ruffhouse A&R is. This approach is hella dated as the records that dominate today's airwaves don't even fit that profile. Feels kind of 2004'ish when Jay thought he was grown because he started wearing button ups with Pharrell doing falsetto crooning on the hook. Man I just want to forget this album ever existed.

"I wish yall could see me right now. I'm 2 steppin in the booth." :why:

I see how I tryin to rationalize this wreck of an album but it's not just the formula the n1lka can't rap no more. He has completely lost it on the mic let alone his beat selection. This n1kka Beans has just solidified his episode of Unsung!!

I mean I hadn't heard anything new from my man beans in a minute...and my ipod has been starving lately...real famine in these streets...Ipod ribs is touchin on some sickly shyt...man i played about 2 min of each song and i was like  nah...somebody trolled me...this has got to be some unreleased tracks shyt...so i went and dl'ed it from a reliable place...and it was the same thing... i was like :to::sadcam:

In a way I should have known by the album cover...but my mind blocked it out on some :snooze: shyt...

See but that's where you're wrong fam, Beans is still a monster with them bars. Hell in just 2011 alone he did a few vids/interviews where he killed shyt lyrically.

So why wasn't that on display with this album? Because when you're out of your element, going through the motions & or not completely invested... the bars will take a hit. You think the formula with song concepts and beats didn't apply to the lyrical portion breh? Of course it did, it was his way of simplifying it lyrically (the term dumbing down annoys me) which he felt was in accordance with the skill level that gets airplay & maximum spins. A disaster all around...
