They fukked with scott's characterization and its pretty bad.
I haven't been a fan of Marvel shyt when the house of M bullshyt went down.

That said they had the opportunity to do something with Cycloops instead of making him a magneto clone, and it would have been nice to see them take it to the limit.

Cyclops isn't a Magneto clone.

Cyclops was literally defeated by the fascism of Disney/Marvel/movie universe.

The writers wrote themselves into a corner once they put them on an adversarial tract against the Avengers and their billion dollar machine.

Ever since then, Marvel hasn't known what to do with the oppressed minority angle that made the X-men so culturally relevant and has tried to push inclusion without equal representation.

It's been embarrassing and it says a lot about who has editorial control and how they view themselves in relation to minorities.

As a fan who's been collecting the books since the 80's, I like to pretend the series ended after the the Messiah Complex trilogy.

If they would have made cyclops a mutant separatist, who held his priciples but simply wanted nothing to do with humanity anymore and wanted to focus on protecting his own, you would have had an interesting dynamic with the uncanny avenger integrationist and acceptance seekers and the mutant supremacists like Magneto. There are a lot of games and different storylines they could have went, but like you said, they don't have the writers with the mindset to pull it off.

House of M was such a lame attempt at being something that I can't buy it, just a terrible storyline and plot IMHO, and then to ride with it and make it canon and serious, just killed the marvel universe for me.

I think they know exactly what they're doing. I've been following his growth since AvX, and I know full well about charles representing MLK and magneto repping Malcom, but until just now reading that panel it never hit me how blatant the racial allegories were with scott's characterization. It's almost a damn mockery...
