On a certain level, the attitude era nostalgia is sad because it's WWE tacitly saying they haven't done anything worth remembering in 20 years.
My nikka:wow: I been saying the same shyt for months now. And then I peeped Austin's latest with Russo and it's obvious they haven't done shyt in 20 years. Most of their top 25 moments from Raw are from 20 years ago.

I understand the attitude era put the company back on top but the whole obsession this company has with that time period is ridiculous.

It's ridiculous man but at the same time, it's the last time they were seriously seriously culturally relevant. Monday Night Raw, at times, could boast damn near beating the NFL in the ratings, Stone Cold and Rocky were genuinely some of the biggest stars in the world. They went from being niche to being on the cover of TV guide, Newsweek, super bowl commercials, MTV specials, and pulled off an empty arena match during the halftime of the super bowl. NBA players wanted to be a part of it so they could get hot.

Essentially, WWE is Al Bundy and the attitude era is their 4 touchdowns in one game

I wonder what message that sends to younger fans who came up in the Ruthless Agression era and beyond. They probably have really vivid memories of people like Cena, Orton, Batista, etc, and WWE is constantly telling them "Yeah that shyt doesn't matter. At all."

The really sad part is that all their clinging to the late 90s never causes any kind of epiphany that maybe they should rethink how they do their product if they aren't producing memorable, culturally resonant stuff. But that would require more forward thinking minds than WWE has at its disposal.

When Raw started, it was innovative and exciting and memorable because it hadn't been done before. And they kept innovating and pushing. When is the last time WWE or Raw felt innovative or dangerous or exciting?

The posts in here made me sad. :mjcry:

It reminds me of how in 2003, to celebrate the 300th episode of The Simpsons, there was a list made of the best episodes of the show and almost all of them were from the first eight seasons. This article talked about how the show was no longer capable of making classic episodes and used the list to make its point.

The WWE's at that point now. They can't really do anything classic anymore, so they have to keep reminding themselves of a period where almost everything they did was classic. :francis:
