what is a "flac" rip?

FLAC/ALAC (Apple Lossless) = Lossless. MP3/AAC = Lossy. Lossy is compressed, and you lose all kinds of bits of music when you compress, which makes the sound quality worse. Lossless is uncompressed, keeping all the bits of music intact, thus losing no sound quality.

Flac rips have to be done right though. Hopefully illadope is aware of this . Gotta use either EAC (PC) or XLD (Mac) with the settings set up right, so you get an exact (bit for bit) copy of the CD. .log is a MUST, and .cue is nice to have.

There's a nice guide made by a torrent site I frequent, which goes thru and helps you set up either program correctly.

Yeah, that "Perfect" was a little double entendre . I'm just glad that group got with the program and started including logs, and now, finally, cues.

There's some folks out there that have really good equipment for ripping vinyls also. I've downloaded plenty of vinyl flacs (mostly of classic Rock joints).
