pressure from Cuban Floridians and FL is a swing state
I didn't think Cubans in Florida have any sway.
Its more that it fits into the U.S. international affairs agenda, and right-wing Cubans in Florida act as conduits and mouthpieces for the U.S. agenda.
I dont hate on socialism per se, but why must all socialist countries be allergic to free elections? I feel a lot of these states wouldnt fail if free elections could change incompetent leaders
It depends on how you define "free elections," and as an American - it certainly has a specific bias to it.
Do they have a slate of candidates up for popular vote every 4-6 years, all backed by the same two political parties, corporations, and large-scale interest organizations? No. Do they have the ability to participate directly in their nations governance? Yeah, and in many ways it's much more direct and robust than what we have in the U.S.
I'm fairly sure you can look at the history of "free and fair" elections in Pink Tide countries and see why the suspicion is there - the U.S., Britain, Germany, and France have never hesitated to directly interfere with the elections of "socialist" countries, nor have they ever hesitated to assassinate a democratically elected leader.
You disagree with the U.S.'s stated reason for its brutal sanctions on Cuba?
