Crypto really makes me feel old and out of touch. I keep reading it's the future, but I personally can't think of a situation where I'd need to use crypto over a Visa. Maybe I need to do some more research.

Nah, fukk that. You're good. A lot of it sounds ridiculous because it is. Most of the people engaging in it are treating it as a speculative market to make money. And that's fine, I guess. But the people trying to bill it as a legitimate and mainstream way that people will spend money in the future are likely trying to sell you just to prop up that same speculative market. They have an interest in selling you on the idea.

I mean feel free to do research. I have a couple hundred bucks invested in Bitcoin that I'm not touching for 5 years, just to see if there's a return. And I think there likely will be.

But crypto isn't replacing fiat currency anytime soon. Not to mention a lot of situations that they talk about where this would be useful (like societal collapse) would involve lots of infrastructure and the internet going down, which would make it almost impossible to spend crypto anyways.
