I don't understand what was "forced" or how a movie meant to touch on this kind of topic could've been more subtle. It's a good story to tell. I didn't view it as preachy or beating you over the head with some idea of everyone being racist and how we're all the same deep down, but that's just me
We have the racist white cop, feeling up a black woman and essentially LOOKING to fukk with the black couple....while dealing with an ailing father, and ultimately SAVING that woman.
We have a black film director having to deal with being looked at as an uncle tom....and eventually snapping on a black male, touching on what some would describe as "self hate".....
We have the golden boy cop that was so disgusted by the aforementioned cop...but ultimately ended up killing someone because of the same prejudices he had, but clearly held inside.
And one of my favorite parts of the movie is having the one person that can probably be perceived as a bad person the most, just being a blue collar dude trying to get by in the key repairman.
I could see SOME parts being cliche but honestly, that didn't take away shyt for me. There were a lot of great characters and seeing them develop/regress was great.
Some of the commentary on this is just.....
