Chris Paul's 2008-2009 season is better than any season that Iverson had...
and Chris Paul could be debated that he deserved the MVP over Lebron...

There are people who overestimate and underrate him heavy on both extremes, but dude was somewhere between that, which was pretty dang good.
If anything is overrated, it was AI's 76ers team.
That "defensive behemoth" allowed the Lakers to average 100pg in that series.
In comparison the Pistons had the Lakers averaging 83ppg their series.
Dude winning that one game was one of the biggest single-game accomplishments imo, that's why it's often brought up.

Not a fair comparison, especially since the '04 Lakers showed signs of burning out and disharmony long before they even got to the Finals. The '01 76ers defense was legit even before they traded for Mutumbo, just because they weren't collectively as good on that end as the '04 Pistons squad doesn't mean they weren't great in their own right.

Lakers put away a really good San Antonio Spurs team and a Timberwolves team in 04 pretty quickly.
Probably not, but they'd have a greater chance of winning than v. '01 Lakers. Still, they were a great defensive unit for that time/year, especially in the context of being the main factor in leading the 76ers to the Finals, because it was the great equalizer whenever A.I. was inconsistent.

That's the thing though, a purely defensive team will almost always fall short against an offensive team - that's the reason why I say those 76ers teams were overrated was for that reason. I'm sure their defense played a big role in getting to the Finals, but AI played a great role there too.
I personally don't like the argument I see some people make like AI had the team to beat those Lakers. On those lines, that supporting cast was vastly overrated.

Allen Iverson at his peak was one of the most amazing spectacles in sporting history.. I know this forum overrates the bums he played with due to awards they won because they rode Iversons coat tails that season they made the finals but no other player in history would of carried that team to the finals let alone took a game from those Lakers..
