Nowhere in Sam's interview did he even mention or allude to Cowboy, who wasn't even on Nip's team like that. To me this is another example of the set feeling some type of way about Nip. Even in a case like Cowboy where he fukked with Nip, he still feels the need to yell out what wasn't his job. Not to mention the way he was selling bootleg merch on Crenshaw immediately after the murder, or the way he personally removed Nip's mural. I get that the mural was getting disrespected but that's a decision you let family or official Marathon people make.
Also people saying Nip wasn't popping like that are missing major context. Nip was popping in LA. Nobody gave a fukk he wasn't platinum. I've been to LA plenty of times before he died and heard him nonstop bumping from cars and on the radio. He was that guy in the city. I'd imagine multiple cities have examples of local artists who blow up in the hood and have the city on lock before they get popular elsewhere and go gold/plat. In LA the radio supports their own music at a rate that feels higher than anywhere else I've been. You'll hear new Game singles nobody else cares about, old Tyga shyt, a lot of Tyler singles, Kendrick etc. And a lot of Nipsey shyt. And this was before Victory Lap mind you so yea I will say gang members stuck running minor plays would be jealous about that shyt.
