- Stephane Bancel, CEO of Covid-19 vaccine maker Moderna, warned Wednesday that the virus will be around "forever."
- Public health officials and infectious disease experts have said there is a high likelihood that Covid-19 will become an endemic disease, meaning it will be present at all times, though likely at lower levels than it is now.
- "SARS-CoV-2 is not going away," Bancel said during a panel discussion at the JPMorgan Healthcare Conference.

How do we learn to live with Covid in the UK?
Analysis: Lockdown extension brings questions on when and how UK can draw a line under social distancing
Whatever the epidemic does, the overwhelming view among senior scientists is that coronavirus is here to stay. The cold assessments came from the left and right of Boris Johnson at Monday’s Downing street briefing. From one side, Sir Patrick Vallance, the chief scientific adviser, said the virus “will be with us forever”. From the other,
Prof Chris Whitty, England’s chief medical officer, warned of Covid illness and deaths “for the rest of our lives.”
But what does it mean to live with coronavirus? Siân Griffiths, emeritus professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, who co-chaired the 2003 Sars inquiry for the Hong Kong government, said it called for a new balance between knowing the virus was around and needed to be dealt with, and the knowledge that we needed to get back to a life that was not focused on the virus.
“I don’t think we’ll live in a restricted society. We’ll move into a more careful society, a more cautious society and one where we understand the science and the process and we have learned from the traumas of the pandemic,” she said.

Coronavirus could be ‘here forever’ with constant need for vaccinations, top scientist warns MPs
One of the world’s leading immunologists has warned MPs that
Covid-19 could be “here forever”.
Sir John Bell, a distinguished scientist and regius professor of medicine at Oxford University, said that the pathogen underpinning the novel virus may never be eliminated.
Giving evidence at a session of the Commons Health and Social Care Committee, Sir John, 68, added that any potential
coronavirus vaccine “is unlikely to have a durable effect that’ll last for a very long time”.
“So we’re going to have to have a continual cycle of vaccinations and then more disease, and more vaccinations and more disease.” Sir John told the Committee, chaired by former health secretary and Tory MP Jeremy Hunt.
