Pentagon Knew Of Possible Coronavirus Threat For Years

The Pentagon was aware of the likelihood of a pandemic brought on by a novel coronavirus years ago, predicting with startling accuracy shortages of masks, hospital beds and ventilators that could occur in an outbreak, according to a 2017 internal document reported by The Nation.

The 103-page document, which the magazine describes as an update to an earlier Defense Department pandemic influenza response plan, cites a novel respiratory illness as the "most likely and significant threat" in a pandemic situation.

The document also warns that shortages of masks and ventilators would have a "significant impact on the availability of the global workforce."

"The intelligence community and the military were well aware of what could, and unfortunately, did happen" said Nation reporter Ken Klippenstein in an interview with NPR's All Things Considered.

Klippenstein reports that he obtained the document from a Pentagon official who requested anonymity. Klippenstein says the Pentagon has not responded to his requests for comment on the story.

Klippenstein told All Things Considered that within intelligence circles, a coronavirus has been viewed as a likely threat going back at least five years. And while President Trump has said the current COVID-19 pandemic "came out of nowhere," Klippenstein says it is "inconceivable that the White House did not receive this," referencing information contained in the 2017 Pentagon report.

elected officials and medical professionals over hospital beds and medical equipment.

One section reads: "even the most industrialized countries will have insufficient hospital beds, specialized equipment such as mechanical ventilators, and pharmaceuticals readily available to adequately treat their populations during clinically severe pandemic."

My best friend and his fiance originally wanted a 10/10/20 wedding date. But with everything accelerating over here now and us having two other friend's that had just come back from China in January that started educating us, they said fukk all of that and pushed it to Summer 2021. Glad they did :manny:

The divide on hydroxychloroquine and it's incorporation into treatment plans is more a story than whether it works or not.

ACIP, WHO, CDC rely on postmarketing safety surveillance all the time with vaccines, but applying the same leniency to something that has a longer safety history than vaccines themselves is suddenly foreign and a cause for hesitancy.

Worst thing about this pandemic is it's occurrence during an election cycle. The posturing on all levels. :snoop:

White House COVID-19 Coordinator: Don’t Go To Grocery Store Or Pharmacy Unless Essential
It’s come to this: The White House is now advising everyone not to head to the grocery store or pharmacy in the coming two weeks.

“The next two weeks are extraordinarily important,” White House coronavirus response coordinator Deborah Birx said Saturday at a press conference. “This is the moment to not be going to the grocery store, not going to the pharmacy, but doing everything you can to keep your family and your friends safe.”

The coronavirus is expected to peak over the next two weeks. Already, the U.S. has more than 312,000 confirmed cases – that’s confirmed, as in tested and certified – and an unknown number of asymptomatic people who have the virus. The U.S. now has more than 8,500 deaths.

Summer 2022 would be more realistic. It takes at least a year to properly plan a wedding. Venues and vendors are not going to be back in operation by the summer of this year. It’s going to take months before group meetings and activities. This thing hasn’t even been contained or controlled yet.
