When most people were exposed to Funk he was already old and doing gimmick hardcore matches and people are indifferent to those types of matches. It's like being exposed to mid to late 00's Mick Foley for the first time, you feel kind of sorry for a person that age putting their bodies on the line like that. Seeing an old man taking crazy bumps in crazy gimmick matches, people have a different outlook to that, then if it was a person in their mid 20's.

Indeed, but unfortunately people are lazy phucks and judge books by its cover (or by first looks/takes) and unless they're being spoon fed, they just don't know and won't bother to look beyond the surface.
