Is he that good? Is he a poor man's HBK? Or can they even be mentioned in the same sentence?

HBK won his first world title before his 31st birthday. Dolph will probably be 32 when he wins his.

There are obvious similarities, especially in terms of selling ability (A+), size (usually smaller than their opponents) and heel personalities (arrogant show-off types). They also both started to become singles stars while being managed by older women. :shaq:

HBK's mic work was is better than Dolph's at the same age, but I think Dolph is developing there. His offence was more convincing too, but again, that's something that should be easily improved.

So if everything goes right, can Dolph reach that level? Or is his absolute ceiling a little lower?

His ceiling is lower. I say that because Vince doesn't seem sold on him yet and if he isn't sold on him by 32 he probably won't be at all. For Dolph to be Shawn, he needs the WWE corporate machine behind him and a notable offense. He has neither right now.

Nope Shawn's success was a storm of talent and timing... Dolph is 6th in line at best after Cena, Punk, Brygawd, Sheamus and Orton....Not to mention that age will soon be an issue (at least in the E's eyes)

Dolph Dawg is my dude but I don't see it, he'll REALLY have to take off.

Shawn was already rocking the mic by the time he was 29-30, not too far off but every year lost, hurts.

Only similarities I see right now is when it comes to selling. Everyone knocks Ziggler's offence, I get why.. but at the same time he's been put in situations to solely make the other guy look great in a 10 minute bout. Not much opportunity there. He also doesn't have many high risk maneuvers like HBK did either, which helped get him over in stealing the show.

At 32, he's already being used to make top talent look better than they are, I feel like those matches will be exhausted by the time he becomes the WHC. That's why they need to start developing the bench (hey Tyson!) or the only thing he and Shawn will have in common is having a title run similiar to 1996.

Edit: They also aren't even building/booking him properly. As a MITB winner he's literally batting .500 in matches right now. Swapping wins with Jericho and Orton, now losing to Punk recently on SD (a match that should have headlined a PPV.) He should have been put over CLEAN with NO rematch "gimme-backs" - especially after Cena's MITB cash-in fail.
