Could a dramatic television series based on the pro wrestling business work?

Think "The Wrestler" meets "Breaking Bad" or "Orange Is The New Black" (I can't really think of a show to compare it to)... :manny:

....a dramatic series that follows the on-screen/off-screen lives of pro wrestlers, the scandals, the pain, the death, the murder, the romance, estranged family relationships, etc.

They could even base it on the boom in the 90's. Would people tune in? :patrice:

Wherever whores go.....
With good writing and casting anything can be good tv

Whats funny is I dont think a scripted show about wrestling could match the fukkery that happens behind the scenes of a wrestling promotion

A show centered around a Vince McMahon based character and a few wrestlers as main characters, could make for a great series.

It would probably hit too close to home & get cancelled like "Playmakers" did...

Yeah, I actually thought of that show immediately. The dark side behind the scenes is such a huge contrast from the glitz and glamorous productions that people see on TV. I think the business is interesting enough to hook people in. I could see a Netflix show getting as big as "Orange Is The New Black" with the right writers.

But then again it depends on what your definition of 'work' is.

What are you trying to say with the show? Is it a straight drama? Would there be wrestling scenes? Would it tie in with any of the pro wrestling associations?

that's a great idea could definitely work on HBO or AMC has to be over the top with the politics and behind the scenes love triangles and the drugs and juicing

Yes

Hbo or showtime only to make it classic

Steroids

Everyone fukking running trains on the women. And the fags that touch dikks outside of the ring

Corruption

If they got balls throw in a benoit like story arc

Vince McMahon type

Could be good

No direct ties to current pro wrestling associations. Just sensationalized story arcs inspired by things that have happened in the industry. Screwjobs, drug overdoses, steroids in guys trying to make it, people dying young, old dudes in the indies, politics in the big time, favoritism, nepotism, racism, homosexuality, cheating, women in the industry, groupies, crazy fans, not seeing children, the money, the pranks, people using wrestlers wrong, bone-headed bookers...I'm sure there'd be tons of wrestlers willing to contribute ideas to the show. There could even be a part where characters tour Japan and they show THAT side of the industry. There are so many angles to go about it.

Exactly. It writes itself...and you could blend in dramatic wrestling scenes they way they did in the "The Wrestler" with great camera angles.

It could work on the right network, like HBO or AMC. Maybe it can be roughly based on real-life events with characters based on real people, like Boardwalk Empire, and if you make it a period piece (the 80s or 90s) that could add a new element of dopeness
