Gabriel Peñagarícano, the legal adviser to WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto, says a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. would be a mega-fight event.

Cotto and Mayweather collided in a junior middleweight unification in 2012, with Floyd winning a hard-fought decision over twelve rounds.

Cotto will return on June 6th in a world title defense against former champion Daniel Geale. Mayweather was back on Saturday night, where he won a decision over Manny Pacquiao. He wants to fight again in September. If Cotto wins in June, he may face Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in the fall (should Canelo beat James Kirkland on Saturday).

"Miguel is focused on his fight on June 6. After June 6 we will see what is the biggest fight that is available," said Peñagarícano to El Vocero. "I have no doubt that [a Mayweather rematch] would be a mega fight. It would generate a lot of interest, and it would be one of the fights that we would want. But as I said, it's nothing that we are looking at now. We have a commitment on June 6 and we are not looking there now."

Cotto just signed a three-fight contract with Roc Nation Sports, worth a reported $50 million. The bout with Geale will be the first of this agreement. The Puerto Rican star is currently preparing with trainer Freddie Roach at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles.

Mayweather schooled him fighting pretty wide open (for him), if he fights his usual style it's gonna be even more of a wash.

lol we shall see.
He has nothing to prove against Cotto, it'd be a tough fight but as it stands he will be leaving boxing with a resume that already includes beating Cotto . . Because Cotto is going to be a punishing fight, it's not of benefit to him and makes no sense - going up to 160 to fight at a whole new weight makes it even less attractive, a complete pipe dream to assume he's willing to risk his body like that

Like I said in the main boxing thread:

Is it really a mega-fight though? I haven't seen anything from Cotto that makes me believe he will be any more successful against Floyd than he was the last time. I know I have no interest in it at all.
Cotto needs to just stop running away from Cinnamon and get prepared for that whooping in the fall.

this is not going to happen. floiyd pretty much already said that his next fight will be vs. whoever he wants to fight & that the fighter will be "competitive". the "mega fights" - cotto, canelo, maidana rematch, pacquiao - are through, and he just wants to be done with it.

Mayweather vs. Josesito Lopez coming Sept. 2015, people.
