I get that Freddie Roach is a great trainer, but why are they acting like Roach is the 1st guy to help Miguel Cotto?

My memory is a bit off, so please correct me if I'm wrong.....but didn't Emanuel Steward try to teach Cotto to be more defensive and to move more but Cotto didn't listen?
