Fuucked up.
Imagine if candidates had discussed this issue. Don't hear any politicians talking about this as crucial as this type of service is to millions. Seems like an easy election platform to bring up and get support.
So fuucked up.
1. A lot of cities don't like these bus stations in their inner cities, because it attracts those with less means including homeless-adjacent, etc and the areas around them become "distressed". Houston is moving their. station from downtown. The thing is the bus stations, rail, etc are usually close to inner cities, so it's a truly classist uppity ass move when you move people that need public transit the most away from the major stations.
2. These investors and those that don't want bus riders near downtown get a 2 for 1, by removing bus station and reinvest land into something more fancy and expensive, and less for common people.
3. The same way the car industry got rid of private rail systems to push car sales around 1930s and 40s, this could be a ploy to push towards a new type of transportation technology for lower income folks or someone that just needs the choice of riding a bus....60 million people.
- Autonomous buses (pure speculation, never even heard about this, but could be)?
- Preparing for VTOL (right now VTOL just marketing to middle and higher income, buut the largest vehicles seat up to only 8 people)?
- Apps like Hitch that is basically Uber for long distance between cities?
Whatever the case it's a fuucked up move and I hope it's addressed, otherwise how will folks be able to travel across the U.S. with ease? (
or is that point, to control movement, starting with lower income?).
