Coronavirus Will Change the World Permanently. Here’s How.

Decent article from Politico on some of the long term changes we can anticipate from Corona....As a Management type-breh one of the first thoughts I had form this mess was that many employers will realize that maybe we DON'T need as many employees physically in the office as we once thought we did. As a manager for my particular division of personnel, I am taking steps to make some positions remote-only after the COVID shyt is over... I think teleworking may become a more mainstream way of doing business as opposed to having people physically in the office (wasting time and retail space, let's be real >60% of time in office is spent doing personal business/entertainment)

A few of the points that stood out to me were:
A new kind of patriotism.
America should and will likely move past weaponized patriotism

A return to faith in serious experts.

Less reliance on Facebook knowledge, more vigilance about false/non-credentialed "experts"

Regulatory barriers to online tools will fall.

TELEWORKING WILL become mainstream after this, mark my words

A healthier digital lifestyle.

Digital influencers/celebrities will rely less on centralized communication mediums and utilize a more "streamer-esque" approach to outreach

More restraints on mass consumption.

After this supply chain fiasco with toilet paper and cleaning supplies, we will see constraints on commercial consumption (not too much because Capitalism)

The inequality gap will widen.

We've seen that MOST people in America are ONE paycheck away from financial ruin.

Before rona teleworking was the new wave. I know someone who works for an organization with like 100 employees and they changed offices and the new location only had like 30 desks, people work from home 4/5 days a week there and have to reserve a desk the day before coming in.

Telework has traditionally been treated as a secondary option in my industry. I'd like it to be the primary option. We honestly don't need all these people in the office :yeshrug:

This is already happening. There's high speed internet and device barrier that makes it significantly challenging for people who are lower income or less tech savy to keep stay plugged in. This is being dubbed as the digital divide:
A digital divide is any uneven distribution in the access to, use of, or impact of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) between any number of distinct groups. These groups may be defined based on social, geographical, or geopolitical criteria, or otherwise.[1] Because of ICT high cost, its adoption and utilization is highly uneven across the globe.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_divide#cite_note-2

This is what my company was headed towards doing before this all went down.

These two sound like fantasies:

America should and will likely move past weaponized patriotism

A return to faith in serious experts.

Do they think Republicans and bozo supporters are going to magically disappear? Is Fox News gonna be taken off the air?
