Amy Shah, a double board-certified medical doctor in allergy and immunology, told The Post that standard face masks you can find online (if not sold out) aren’t very helpful against viruses.

“Is it bad? No,” she said. “It’s not like it’s harmful. But will it completely protect you? No.”

1. what if I have an N95 respirator? Why is she assuming i have “the standard mask you find online?”

2. If the standard surgical mask won’t protect me “completely”, wouldn’t it still be in my better interest to wear it for the partial protection it provides.

3. How does this make any sense to not wear a mask when becuz it “won’t help” when on the CDCs website, their guidance to healthcare professionals says, when in close contact with a COVID-19 patient who is not wearing a facemask, “Wearing all recommended PPE (except wearing a facemask instead of a respirator)” puts me at low risk but “Not wearing a facemask or respirator” is high risk?

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

4. When shyt hit the fan in China EVERYONE wore masks to prevent transmission both ways. If they're the only country that has gone through this and possibly curtailed its peak, why wouldn't the non-pharmaceutical interventions that they exercised be the best practice?

I can’t stand this bullshyt misinformation

The problem with what you are saying is, we have no idea how many people have it and have died from it. There has been no way to test for it until recently, and before that we have no idea how many actually died from it and something else like flu was blamed. Not do we have a real knowledge of interactions. Doesn't matter if it's a pandemic. It was serious enough that China willingly ruined there own financial growth to attempt to get it under control.

Keep in mind:

- If this has been killing people of 60+, buckle up. The baby boomers are a huge population.
- the US is not China. There will be no forced quarantined early on. There will be no forced monitoring. Hell half the people will not get tested because they are just being American.

This is why you're seeing stuff cancelled. They are trying to stop it now. Nothing wrong with stopping something early. We absolutely don't want something on the same scale as flu, because flu won't stop and say, oh you go ahead, I'll come back when you are done.

the lack of testing likely means it’s less fatal than we thought

watch what happens in NY and Seattle. If we don’t see a big increase in deaths and serious cases (ie hospitalization) in those cities, then the virus isn’t going to have much better luck on a national scale.

Also, flu season is almost over (and chances are coronavirus is also seasonal)

Just because something isn't fatal doesn't mean its not disruptive. WHO has said recovery from the virus may take upwards to 6 weeks

That doesn't mean anything. Most cases aren't more severe than a cold so full recovery is not a big deal
