overall for now I think we are fairing better than most places

lmao at anyone believing these numbers.

how can you trust numbers when we’re not even testing and the feds are basically refusing to accept information from hospitals about number of suspected/confirmed cases.

it’s crazy to think about how a month ago everyone was talking about how we can’t trust the numbers coming from China (understandably so), and would never have assumed same thing would be applicable when it comes to US figures smhhhhh

Its hard to trust the numbers because:
  1. It feels like the flu, so unless tests are made cheaper, they won't go to the Hospital to get them done. Plus, if they did it like how they did in South Korea, the numbers and the Death Index would go down. Basically they do it based on 1) Going to the Hospital to get Tested 2) Does the person die or get discharged from recovery?
  2. MANY are at most asymptomatic, this isn't the 1918 Spanish Flu where a ton of young people died because it was aggressive, many who die are Old, so its a common killing virus in pathological terms. Yet these numbers are not factored because they are not hard numbers like Inpatients.

Yea, good points especially regarding the impact of the Spanish Flu but I think humanity needs to take this shyt seriously and mitigate it as much as possible until we get effective treatments and vaccines, because the first wave of the Spanish Flu wasn’t that deadly either but when it came back in the Fall of 1918....

An estimated three-quarters of the French military was infected in the spring of 1918 and as many as half of British troops. Luckily, the first wave of the virus wasn’t particularly deadly, with symptoms like high fever and malaise usually lasting only three days, and mortality rates were similar to seasonal flu.

Indeed. This WON'T BE End of the World. But for the uneducated brehs, this is like the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, they never seen that destruction before but everyone knows NOW.

Until you see people choking for air, taking for granted something so small can kill you more effective than getting shot in the head, they really don't understand that this isn't a joke.

I’d be interested in any info on whether cruise ship goers are on average more or less healthy than the typical American.
They would be older shytboomers so likely less healthy, unless it’s a lot of families with kids. I do not get the appeal of cruises at all

This is what I am seriously worried about, with SARS took like 5 months to contain it. That was scary living through but that was contained without drastic measures.

No offence to other countries but if China and Singapore can't contain shyt, with how much sway and influence it has over the people other countries have a tremendous uphill battle for the future of this.

Remember the media has a vested interests in scaring people so they stay at home and watch cable news all day. This isn’t a liberal/conservative thing (the media is only liberal when it’s convenient/profitable for them). Imagine how much cash the news outlets are raking in right now.

social media is similar - people want retweets and likes
