Thanks brehs, am doing better today, spent the whole day in bed yesterday. All I got now is still a light but constant coughing, hearing half way gone from my right ear and the worst brain fog ever. With the hearing thing being the "worst" of the it.
Sounds like you got it real bad. Weird how this virus can be. Some just lose their smell or feel sick for a day or 2 and some stay sick for weeks. But feel better bruh. Stay resting and drink those fluids. You'll be good.

continue to rest up as much as possible, I keep reading that you increase the chances of it turning into long covid if you're active too soon after infection. and HYDRATE. plenty of water / beet juice. I got covid for what I think is the second time in Nov this year. for electrolytes and sodium it was kinderlyte. the cough doesn't linger long for me but the fatigue and excess mucus production took weeks to subside

two of my contractors were the sickest they've been in decades for two weeks straight recently and they work separately

they're both conservatives so of course it wasn't covid

:mjlol:

my old lady's co-workers are dropping like flies the last few weeks as well

idk anymore the country pretty much gave up on dealing with it

Yeah I haven't seen a news story with case numbers and deaths in over a year it seems. My wife works at the hospital and she has no idea how many covid patients they have but a couple months ago everyone was catching it there. My parents caught it in Cancun back in August. First time my mom caught it she was in ICU. This was her third time with it and she had a pretty mild cold.

Officially a week since I tested positive a few thoughts:

- this was my 3rd time officially having covid, I can't say for sure but around December 2019 I got super sick, only lasted two days but swore it was covid before it hit the rest of the world. My other two prior times catching it (both post vaccinations) were very light, sick for a day maybe , this time I spent 4 days super sick, sickest I've been in my adult life. I'm a relatively healthy male not overweight.

- the fatigue (which I still have) and the head fog were bad, I couldn't imagine having that type of head fog for months or years. My energy is down about 25% I would say

-I was genuinely surprised at the lack of options from the doctor, I was denied paxlovid, one because I didn't meet the criteria and two because they have been seeing a pattern of reinfections on people they did prescribe it. Other than it was basically just cold and flu meds, nothing stronger.

-in a a couple of months am going to get back on the latest vaccine and stay on top of it, also looking for ways to boost my immune system

-I knew covid was here to stay but thought eventually it would just die down. Nope, apart from myself I know at least a dozen people currently sick with, 2 being male cousins of mine, around my age but both in way better (exercise) shape than I am, both are fairing about the same as me

Yup brain fog is gone, still have a light random cough and fatigue. I feel like the day before one starts to get sick / the day after you stop getting sick if that makes sense. It's like my body is still fighting something off but yea definitely much better than a few days.

:salute: happy new year

Mask mandate resumes at all 11 New York City public hospitals amid rise in flu, COVID and RSV cases

Wednesday, January 3, 2024 4:39PM

Mask mandate back for all 11 NYC public hospitals

The mandate returns amid a rise in cases of COVID, RSV, and the flu.

WABC

NEW YORK (WABC) -- A mask mandate has resumed for all 11 of the city's public hospitals after an increase in coronavirus, flu and respiratory syncytial virus cases.

The mask requirement also applies for all health clinics and nursing homes run by NYC Health + Hospitals.

Health Commissioner Dr. Ashwin Vasan said Wednesday the requirement is for areas of the hospital where patients are being treated.

He said it is also partially to protect the staff from incoming sickness as the numbers of patient cases rise. He said city hospitals are currently handling patient levels well and none are overwhelmed.

Vasan said the mask mandate is the right move as we come out of the holiday season.

"What we don't want is staffing shortages, right? When we saw the omicron wave in 2022, the biggest issues were not only people getting sick, but that we had a lot of frontline health workers, they were out with COVID," he said.

Vasan said there are increasing levels of sickness in the city, and health officials are hearing of increased coughing and other symptoms at places where people gather, like work.

Dr. Tapia Mendoza was on the front lines of the COVID-19 response in Washington Heights, where he says there is a high population of patients with asthma, high blood pressure and diabetes -- all conditions that can make it easier to get sick with either COVID, the flu or RSV.

This is the first season where there is a vaccine for all three respiratory viruses. However, Mendoza says there is still a roadblock in the fight against the triple threat.

"There's a lot of resistance, especially in minority communities, to getting the flu vaccine," Mendoza said.

Mendoza said the mask requirement in patient areas should apply to all health facilities.

Health advocates say the rise in respiratory illnesses isn't so vastly different from years past, but they are much more prepared thanks to lessons learned during the pandemic.

"My message to New York is, is that it's not inevitable that you're just going to fall victim to this, there are tools and there are strategies we can take," Vasan said.

He said the most important thing for people who feel sick to do is stay home.
