We're gonna have a health crisis in 5-10 years of people with failing immune systems because of catching COVID repeatedly.

can't have a health crisis in a decade if Earth is uninhabitable by then

they're seeing these outcomes in people who were vaccinated as well right?
It seems more linked to the symptom of anosmia than to the vaccination...

From the article:
Interestingly, 77% of these COVID-19 patients also presented acute anosmia or dysgeusia, which may be related to the observed changes in cortical thickness (19). The high proportions of anosmia and dysgeusia support the idea of the virus entering the nervous system, more specifically the orbitofrontal region (due to the proximity and communication with the nasal cavity).

Recently there seems to be less anosmia (although it still occurs even in vaccinated), so vaccination may be helpful directly or indirectly (by pushing different mutations of Omicron), but I'm not sure to what extent...

I got it unfortunately, crazy thing I thought it was just a really bad cold from the symptoms I had until I tested before a work shift. I’ve been isolated ever since besides chills I haven’t had any out of the ordinary feelings or symptoms. Feeling much better, but still testing positive. I didn’t think it would this annoying and agonizing for the virus to pass through your system

I was playing basketball with one of my friends and he texted me yesterday morning that he tested positive :snoop:

Hopefully he wasn't contagious as he was testing negative all week. He just came back from Vegas, LA, and somewhere else so he got it on his travels no doubt.

If I stay infection-free, this'll be the 3rd time I was in close proximity to someone who tested positive a day after being with me. My sister in 2020 got it from her job and I was with her the night before she tested positive. Back in May, I was with my co-worker in the same closed room for 2 hours... and then a day later she tested positive but me and my boss didn't.

It's crazy.

Topol's suggestions:
- 5-day isolation is too short
- fully vaccinated should be boosted, to push boosters above the current 32% in the US
- second boosters above the age of 50
- CDC should push community transmission map, instead of the community level metric for serious illness, because the transmission leads to long COVID
- remaining effective monoclonal antibodies were given only to 400k people, while the US purchased 1.7m doses. Those doses should be given to vulnerable, because these monoclonal antibodies might not be effective against a new variant
- research for general nasal vaccine is needed
- future resistance to Paxlovid should be anticipated with new back-up pills

sigh
According to the Department of Health, an average of 16 people each year have been diagnosed with West Nile neuroinvasive disease in New York City, with a median age of 62. Roughly 14% of those cases resulted in death, the city said.
In January 2021 one of the greatest ex-Yugoslavian actresses and antiwar activists Mira Furlan died of West Nile virus.
After escaping Croatian nationalists bulling, she even had a decent carrier in the US (for a non-native speaker), starring in Lost and Babylon 5.

I remember thinking what a tragedy it is to survive the worst COVID waves and then die of such a rare disease...

In the end, the team signed on 39 COVID-19–recovered volunteers among a total of 116 controls.

Not a huge sample, but only 33% fully recovered out of people who declared to be healthy post-covid.
