admin/feds cut most of the safeguard and so did states, funding has lapsed for most programs

conservative judges and red states did the rest of the damage

i guess they thought it was politically expedient

our governor and mayor have caught coivd within the last 30 days and nothing has changed on the ground
Point taken.

With the vaccines and therapeutics, catching covid doesn't seem to have the weight it once did.

Outside of the right wing CTs this was coming as the virus got endemic. Can't beat it, gotta live with it.

Surprised they aren't budgeting for cold weather outbreaks though.

Looks like the pill doesn't work well. Work in progress I guess. Profits were still great though.

You have to clarify that statement.

It still reduces your chance of of being hospitalized by over 90%

They just haven't figured out how to use it as a preventative measure for people who were in contact with a COVID positive person.

but none of the supposed steps to help combat the spread of covid infrastructure wise have been taken outside of the vaccines

funding for vaccines/boosters is running out if not over which is on top of covid money going to red states not being used to do anything remotely involving covid

ventilation systems in buildings especially schools haven't been improved...hospitals beginning to get overwhelmed again with growing apathy amongst the staff

and then you have these companies holding the patents hostage and falling behind in supplying the rest of the world

At this point, the west is burying their heads in the sand and pretending people aren’t getting sick from this.

You should read the white papers instead of ingesting science based news form political pundits. There was no purpose for her to talk about hiv (a retrovirus with different mechanics) or myocarditis. It adds nothing to a scientific argument and just muddies the waters with fear, uncertainty, and doubt.

The take away here is that 1) Steven Colbert may have been prescribed paxlovid too early. I've heard some immunologists hypothesize that they think it would be preferable to have your memory B and T cells to be activated first before going on an antiviral treatment.

Secondly, they may need to extend the 5 day course of paxlovid to something like 7 days. It's something that happens with antibiotics as well where the treatment doesn't clear out all of the bacteria and the remaining bacteria ends up replicating again.
