There doesn't seem to be enough political capital in the world to close schools down right now. Every politician is shirking responsibility, and leaving it up to superintendents who have no real choice other than to abide by what the community wants. I teach in a wealthy, very liberal part of the country and hardly any parents want their kids home any longer. They have the option of fully remote learning and its maybe one or two kids per class. None of the kids want school to close, either.
It's good to see some politicians taking the lead on this, though. Hopefully that trend will continue.
