Looking at the card, it's funny that they had DDP going for the "European" Championship. His whole image of stereotypical Jersey guy don't sound like it should even be remotely associated with anything European.

In Cena's prime WWE had Batista, Jeff Hardy, Shawn Michaels, Rey Mysterio, Undertaker, Triple H and Daniel Bryan and CM Punk later on as the Top Babyfaces behind Cena. It wouldn't have hurt WWE at all to turn Cena for a little bit, it wasn't like he had to stay heel but just something to freshen him up.

The perfect times to turn him heel was during The Nexus storyline and the Rise Above Hate storyline but WWE is super tone deaf so we all was stuck with stale ass Cena running through the whole roster.

I think the best time for Cena to turn heel was at WrestleMania XXVIII. He told everybody who would listen that he needed to beat The Rock, that this was the most important match of his career. He even did a promo in an empty arena in Boston, talking about how nobody remembers second place. Talking about how he didn't want to end up like the 2007 Patriots.

Him getting desperate and bending the rules to win, while trying to maintain his good guy persona would have been a great storyline that year. They could have had heel Cena go up against a face Punk, against Ryback, all the good guys of 2012. He could even cheat to beat Lesnar. Then you plant the seeds to have him face Rock again at WM 29.

But then they just had him lose clean, gave him a bunch of random feuds, and made it way too obvious that he was going to beat The Rock at 29 when they should have made it a triple threat with Punk.

Yea...I misread the thread's opening post. That's what happens when I try to read wrestling forums, but also avoid WM 36 spoilers. I was only taking the info. in with my peripheral vision.
