A Tennessee man opened fire on vehicles on Thursday morning, killing one person and injuring three others, including a police officer. Police say the man was angry about recent violent incidents involving police and the deaths of black suspects.
According to the Associated Press, 37-year-old Lakeem Keon Scott — who is black — began firing on a motel in Bristol, Tennessee before taking shots at passing cars. Scott was reportedly targeting white people and police officers.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch said that Scott was armed with an automatic-style rifle and a pistol and was carrying a large amount of ammunition.
Scott began his rampage by firing through the glass windows of the Days Inn lobby on Volunteer Parkway, striking the clerk on duty. He then began to fire at passing vehicles.
When police officers arrived on the scene, Scott shot one, injuring him, but was then gunned down himself. He survived the confrontation and was taken by paramedics to a nearby hospital.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation released a statement saying that Scott was in custody and that it will conduct a full investigation of the incident.
