I will say, I was pleasantly surprised when that Syrian-American mass shooter last month was basically accepted as mentally ill from the beginning, at least in mainstream media. Feels like 10-15 years ago it would have been immediate kneejerk to just assume he was a Muslim extremist no matter what other evidence there was.
