Spoiler: Esoteric meaning

The film does an excellent job being subversive in revealing dissolve and coagulate which is what the catholic church really is about. The pope in this film ultimately being the embodiment of doubt, duality and the personification of the baphomet... the antithesis of faith.

Classic.

Gives you a lot to think about. Its prescient and the performances are high class - especially Fiennes. I wanted to see more of Lithgow as a villain, hes great in everything but its not that kind of film.
