In Beans head, he probably always believed that he was nicer than Jay, and Nas strategically validated Beans' own thoughts. I know that line got under Jays skin

You may be on to something. Nas talked about Jay-Z's ego a few times in interviews about the beef and probably did use that to stir up some bad blood between the two. Nas was pretty much by himself in that battle and there were several Rocafella artists throwing lines at him so if they start to feud with each other internally it would make it easier to deal with Jay. I may be over-analyzing but it sounds legit on paper.

as for ignorant shyt, beans wasn't even sposed to be on that joint. that was a throwaway verse because they removed hov's 3rd verse where he's talking about beyonce the entire time.

Exactly. This was a strategic move made by Nas to stir up a lil beef within the roc. You know them state Prop nyggaz were aware that Beans and Chris influenced Jay. Beans was considered heavy competition for Hov at the time

I really can't see how anyone would think Beans was EVER a better MC than Hov. His flow wasn't hotter, his lyrics weren't nicer, his subject matters were more limited, his albums weren't as dope as Hov's, his singles weren't as hot as Hov's. Like what did he have going for him except for being real? Beans was dope, but he wasn't on Nas or Hov's level or even that close to that level.
