What do you want to do career-wise?Was wondering if anyone had gotten one if it would be useful?
bachelors/masters
employment etc
What do you want to do career-wise?
I don't know about this major but these questions apply to any major.
Just for example's sake, say you want to be a newscaster. 1. Look up what it takes to be a newscaster. 2. Need a communications degree? Okay. 3. Look up how many jobs are out there to be a newscaster. 4. Look at the job requirements. 5. Look at the pay. So, you are going to go through 4 years and have $x in loans. 6. Is a starting newscaster job going to make living affordable?
Maybe you want to be magazine editor. Same thing. Look at existing job openings. What are the job requirements? What is they pay? If your job makes you happy and your degree helps you get to that goal, then get a communications degree.
Try to talk to some newscaster or editor (or whatever) and ask for some insight. It's a shot in the dark but you may be able to get a couple questions for career advice.
Okay. Getting into a communications-type job on the business side of things doesn't require a communications degree.I have a business degree. I was thinking and reading I could spin it somehow to envolve marketing and different types of businesses to make myself more marketable/pay wise.
I want to bang out another bachelors. I really don't feel like getting an MBA right now and I want a degree that can expand my options that has a future.

Thanks guys you're right
Well I'm going to keep doing some soul searching and start looking at mba programs.
A lot of the stuff I've been doing on my own I don't need a degree for. It would be nice if I can find a stable career/position that can fund my side projects basically.
Still not very sure how I feel about the corporate world.
this, not really much more I can add.Corporate sucks, IMO.
Do you work at all now? If so, I'd say just cut your lifestyle down to necessities. No eating out, minimal shopping, no clubs, etc and try to start stacking some bread. In the meantime focus on building your side business. If you can get with a small company (250 employees or less), then go with that but Corporate America can suck the life out you and you may find you have less time to dedicate to your side business.

Comm is a broad degree that lets you dive into many different positions, but the problem is that there is a good chance you will land in some HR position or something in which you have to deal with people's personal problems. Sure you might enjoy that (as I do), but you are often going to be put into some very uncomfortable positions which I think would bother you given the shyt you say on the podcast and write on here.I'm a really good cook actually.
thanks though

I once worked for a big online retailer and was faced with a decision made by the higher ups that just made me go I don't think I can do this anymore. What was the problem? A random drug test...system wide because they had too many "regular" workers and wanted the percentage of the temps to increase. You got fired...no counseling...no help at all. Just straight out the door. Now keep in mind that I have no problem with random drug tests if done on a semi regular basis (every year or so), but that was the first time they did it in the 4-5 years I was there. They finally found enough good people to put up with their bs and they repay them like that...I still feel like shyt about the whole situation. I hardly shop there anymore as a result.
That was just the last straw too. The shady shyt they were doing behind the scenes would be too much to post in here. That shyt changed my life
throw a communications degree in the bushes
go for a hard skill based degree or just get an MBA, breh
math or engineering. i would say look at the types of jobs open in the oil industry, and see what degree you need. chances are it will be something involving business or the science of getting oil out of the ground. What are the "it" hard skill based degrees right now?
