I love Ms. Fat Booty and really enjoy listening to a ton of Mos Def's stuff. However, Common been more consistent and has some of the best pure hip-hop albums of all-time to me.

Tough to say, I think for as similar they are, their approach is somewhat different.

Mos Def easily for me. I've had a few common albums like water for chocolate, be and one day it'll all make sense.

If we are going on the grounds of material, common has no doubt put more content which his lyrics have never faltered so his discography is more impressive. He's no doubt the more the consistent rapper between the two.

but for me, mos first two albums both blackstar and black on both sides have been the most impactful records I have ever listened to. Mos was like a mixture of both big and Pac, and no one has ever came close until Lupe. His lyrics were so clever and crafted, but the subject matter was as deep or deeper than pacs.

it's just ashame that mos has never been close to that since. he is also a fantastic actor - best rapping actor by far (Mark wahlberg can eat a dikk) - but I feel he has been blackballed by Hollywood because he is Muslim.

I think mos doesn't need to prove anything in rap, but he loves it so much that he can't give up.

people don't realize, but when you're broke or haven't made 'it' inspiring musicians have so much creativity and focus because they want to get their message across. And once they breakout, everything changes and it's hard to get that swagger back.

Mos def is more experimental and unpredictable like having an album w/ the alchemist dropping randomly.

There's something magical/special about common. He seems like a soft/boring person in real life, but his diss songs are hard ( he was the hardest east coast nikka going at the west coast nikkas imo) and you can feel him when he raps about street shyt.

that was the debate I had w/ myself. I seen common live and he had the ladies locked in and the guys locked in
his catalog is def a blueprint on how to not sell out and make a living off this rap shyt

Mos def shows look boring and he only do shows overseas because, he's not good on stage like his younger days.
