Common was considered a top notch MC, skillwise, in '94 amongst heads and the magazine circuit in those days, he may not have had what some would consider mainstream success per se, but if you knew hip-hop, you knew who he was, he was arguably one of the 10 hottest rappers out, especially after I Used to Love HER.
