Im confused by net calories.

I hear that my net calories should be 0 or negative(I'm supposed to burn off everything I eat)

Then I hear my net calories are supposed to be my target calorie goal(1200)

I've been doing the fitness pal app. Here's how my days look

Am I doing it right? So far I've lost 7lbs, but I feel like it should be more. Or maybe I'm too anxious for the weight to come off.

I don't count calories, but I would assume net calories is how many you've consumed for the day minus the amount burned.

Say you ate 1000 calories and burned off 400. You have a net caloric intake of 600 calories. If your goal is 1200 calories/day, that means you can eat up to 600 calories and still hit your goal.

I would think it would be easier to just burn off 500 more calories than you eat each day; that way, you don't have to worry about all that other ish.

That sounds about right.
Is 1200 calories your baseline caloric intake (the amount of calories your body requires for basic functioning)? If so, then yes, you should burn 1700 calories/day (basic function + exercise).

If you eat 1200 calories, then you'll have a net loss of 500 calories. If you lose 500 calories/day, that amounts to 3500 calories/week, which is generally the amount you need to burn to lose a pound of fat.

I have this app, and the goal calories takes into account the amount of pounds you chose to lose per week when you set it up. So, you don't have to burn 1700 calories to create a 500 calorie deficit because the app already did those calculations for you.

OK I was about to say. That seems like a lot of running to burn 1700 a day.

I do plan on kicking up the workouts tho, summer is coming fast.

Ok that might seem confusing so imma break it down.

Your goal is 1200 calories right?

So eat about that much then after weight training and cardio.

Aim for let's say 300-500 calories burned.

1200 calories is super low doe I could never stick to that I need to eat.I work out way too hard.

I stick to 1500-1700 perfect for me.

That seems like a lot. I've been cutting calories for a few months now, so when I eat more then the 1200 I feel :flabbynsick:

you gotta trust me on this one.

my mother is 64 and followed the same thing and lost 30lbs(down to 103)

exercise cals lie. but dietary ones dont(given you are counting properly)

steady dietary deficit never fails if done properly.

if you can eat 1500 or so everyday religiously with protein with every meal. youll keep losing weight(and not muscle weight provided you are lifting)
