Overall gross looks like it's gonna plummet

It's Unlikely SUICIDE SQUAD Will Be Released In China.

Well, Suicide Squad's climb to that rumored $750-800M break-even marker may have just gotten that much harder as it's looking less and less likely that the David Ayer-directed supervillain film, which stars Will Smith & Margot Robbie, will be approved for release in China.

Well, Suicide Squad's climb to that rumored $750-800M break-even marker may have just gotten that much harder as it's looking less and less likely that the David Ayer-directed supervillain film, which stars Will Smith & Margot Robbie, will be approved for release in China.

After a lengthy wait, the third installment in DC Films' Extended Universe - Suicide Squad - has finally arrived, but it's starting to look like a major box office market may miss out on the escapades of Task Force X.

While a final decision has not been made, The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that it's looking increasingly unlikely that the David Ayer-directed supervillain film will receive approval from officials for a release in China.

If it is denied, it'll certainly be a disappointing turn of events for the Warner Bros. tentpole, but it can't be seen as a complete surprise considering that the film had yet to receive an official release date from the China Film Group, which typically sets release dates for major foreign releases at least two months in advance. WB declined comment on the matter, but a Chinese executive told THR's sources that: "They think this is not a good film to release in China."

20th Century Fox's mega-blockbuster Deadpool faced a similar hurdle back in February, and ultimately wasn't released in China due to its intense violence and graphic language. However, thanks to widespread critical acclaim, the Ryan Reynolds-starrer managed to persevere and collected over $782 million worldwide by the end of its theatrical run. Suicide Squad, despite the abysmal critical reception, is currently on pace to shatter August box office records, but whether or not the film will have the legs to match Deadpool's (maximum) effort is yet-to-be seen. Also, without a release in China, it'll be quite an uphill battle to reach that projected break-even number of $750-800 million.

Comic book movies tend to perform extremely well in China. For comparison's sake, Marvel'sCaptain America: Civil War grossed over $190 million there back in early May, Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse brought home over $120 million, and Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice grossed nearly $96 million in China back in March.

I fukking knew this shyt was gonna happen too

Cool, although you're being pick and choosey in your battles.

The article said GOTG was the highest grossing movie for several months. Seems that's something SS has to also accomplish to get the real trophy or else it'd be like BvS and get outshone in 2 weeks by a B- movie starring Melissa McCartney.

SUICIDE SQUAD: terrific work from Smith, Robbie, Hernandez, Davis... and Courtney, kind of! Shame about the rest of the movie, though.

and it begins:ooh:

BOX OFFICE: 40% Fri-Sat Drop For SUICIDE SQUAD

After grossing $65.1 million on Friday in North America ($20.5 million from previews on Thursday and $44.6 million on Friday), Suicide Squad suffered a massive 40% drop on Saturday, and may gross less than $40 million for the day. If that trend continues for another massive drop on Sunday, the overall weekend box office haul for the film could end up being in the $130 million range after early estimates ballooned to the $140-$150 million range.

Given the scathing reviews, it seemed likely that Suicide Squad was headed for a massive drop during the SECOND weekend of release, similar to what happened to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but it appears that the negative reviews are actually affecting the opening weekend box office numbers.

Despite setting records with its $166 million domestic opening weekend back in March , Dawn of Justice also dropped 38% from Fri-Sat during that first weekend. Negative reviews and word of mouth caused the film to drop an unprecedented 68% in its second weekend of release. In comparison, earlier this year, Deadpool saw just a 10% drop going from Fri-Sat during its first weekend in North American theaters and Captain America: Civil War had a small percentage decrease as well, at only 18%. Fox's second comic book movie released this year, X-Men: Apocalypse, saw a 22% drop from Fri-Sat during its first weekend in domestic theaters.

Next weekend, Suicide Squad will face box office competition from Pete's Dragon andSausage Party.

Let Pete's Dragon outsell your movie brehs :pachaha:
