Hell no.....I lol'd when they started Webb at QB. But they outsmarted themselves by moving to the Pac-12. Lost that Texas pipeline an are now a non factor (which was beginning to happen when Hawkins was there in the Big XII). You know you're a bad program when you can't even cash in on Cali rejects who chose Utah over you. Brotha was just put into a bad spot w/ no chance of even building anything even remotely competitive
When they were at their height they had a big California pipeline. but that's back in the day.. they've been either average, bad or downright terrible for the last 5-6 years. That so-called Texas pipeline didn't help or raise their profile

Embree should've never gotten the job...and he only did because the school is obsessed with "CU ties" and they're afraid to move past the McCartney era...Embree was a McCartney "suggestion"

And Hawkins got an extra year because the administration decided they couldn't afford to pay him and another coach...if he wasn't making nearly $1M per season, he would've been gone earlier than he was. He was essentially a lame-duck coach for 2 years :heh:

Truthfully I agree with this. My only point even tho it had nothing to do with your post is that black college coaches for the most part are gone extra quick. I will admit he sucked tho but I really doubt he ever gets another chance again at being a head coach in D1 ball.

I'll never forget that game like 10-11 years ago when Colrado literally ran all over Nebraska. Bobby Purify and Chris Brown had a zillion rushing yards that day.

This is true, and while this might seem like another one of those cases....I don't think it is. Unfortunately for Embree, he was just hired WAY too early, well before he was ready/deserving of a D1 job. Now it might be his last.

2001, the day after Thanksgiving....I remember that so well

I also remember them getting skullfukked by Joey Harrington & Oregon about 40 days later :kobedamn:

Yeah he wasn't ready and he should have known too but he can't turn the job down. Unfortunately he might have blown his shot at another head coaching job, unless he really impresses for several years as a coordinator, but that's doubtful. He might have blacklisted himself with that rant but it is true, it just didnt apply to him though.

Yup....Nebraska didn't play in the Big XII title game....then got mauled by Miami in the title game.

Though Miami probably mauls anyone that year.

The hits in that title game :jemile:

To be honest, he is right to a degree. Black coaches at the college level are few and far in between, and have a lot less leverage. Look at Chizik in Auburn, no way he should have been hired with a 5-19 record from iowa state, true it brought auburn a national championship but he was hired over who many thought was a better candidate which was Turner Gill. The point of the matter is that dude got the chance with a shytty record for no known reason, same couod be said with Lane Kiffen. He has done nothing of merit to deserve the leeway he's gotten.

:usure:

Cam Newton brought them a Championship.

Ha, the Utes get a lot of 3 star kids from Cali + the Polynesian pipeline + the heavy Cali juco pipeline = :win:, the program recruits pretty well with the #28 class last year and currently the 30th class. Our problem was right before the Pac 12 switch a lot of the good players were lost to the NFL and a lot of the coaching staff was poached (dat Urban Meyer coaching tree). Colorado's problem is a lot deeper than that...

Sucks for Embree though he was set up to fail. If I remember the newspaper said the hire was just one to fill the gap between the shytty Hawkins program and whoever the next coach will be, most people didn't think he would be fired this soon. It looks like AD really wants to hire Tedford. It was a dumb decision though by the AD, any coach after the Hawkins mess should have got at least 4-5 years unless the staff was a complete fukk up.
