The Full Presentation

At 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022, Sura Sohna was released from prison. Sohna’s friend and champion, Brandon Harris ’22, was seated in the Annapolis, Maryland courtroom when the decision was read aloud. The incredible advocacy of Harris, through his independent study project at Davidson, “Telling Stories of the Ignored and Forgotten,” played a significant role in the court’s decision to re-evaluate Sohna’s sentence. Sohna faced another 12 years in prison. Without this focused effort, he likely would have had to wait until 2034 to be reunited with his family. Harris’ project was completed with guidance and mentorship from James K. Batten Professor of Public Policy Ike Bailey ’95
