Black On Both Sides was created and written by Hawes, and though specific story details are being kept under wraps for the time being, Hawes has described the project as focusing on “young African American millennials who are attempting to exist in a setting where blackness must come secondary to business”.

Hawes, whose previous work includes creating and starring in the multi-award winning web series Blue Collar Hustle, will play Anansi Moor. An intelligent and eloquent young man whose corporate ambition masks a secret that underlies cultural reclamation. Devin Dmarcus will play Elbert Rahim. A fierce purveyor of black pride whose anger at the ill-treatment inflicted upon African Americans is unwavering. Kiara Woods will play Maya Patterson. A young single mother who is struggling to master the art of “code-switching” at her job.

Dmarcus is perhaps best known for his starring role as ‘Zeek” on the award winning web series CreamXCoffee. Other credits include the reality series Ready To Love and feature film Triple 9. Dmarcus is also known for his previous work as former co-founder and co-director of the brand Black Men Smile.

Woods is best known for her starring role as Brandy on the web series Pressure. She also co-starred in two episodes of Hawes’s previous web series Blue Collar Hustle as Brianna Wiley.

Dmarcus is repped by Alima Industries while Woods is repped by Talent Network Atlanta.

Production on the series is underway, with Hawes also serving as showrunner, director, and writer on the series. Cinematographer Jairus Burks (Green Wood, Blue Collar Hustle, CreamXCoffee) will serve as Director Of Photography. Hawes will executive produce the project alongside George Reese (Utopia Planitia). Jamal Mcclendon, Rodderick Fedd, Shani Hawes, and Cordarol Sanders serve as Producers.

ATLANTA,GA– Alonge Hawes recently wrapped principle photography on his newest series, Black On Both Sides. As such it has been announced that two new talents have been cast as series regulars. Shani Hawes (Blue Collar Hustle, Live Arts Theater’s Production Of Children Of Eden) and Julian Robinson (Blue Collar Hustle) will join the previously announced Devan Dmarcus(Cream X Coffee, Ready To Love) and Kiara Woods (Pressure, Blue Collar Hustle) in the half-hour drama series.

Created, written, and directed by Hawes; Black On Both Sides has been described as a story of “Young African American millennials who are attempting to exist in a setting where blackness must come secondary to business”. The series will explore themes of Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome, Pan-Africanism, and the ever-evolving meaning of blackness in a post-Obama administration America.

Shani Hawes will play Nandi Chisholm, A 20-something who works alongside her cousin Anansi Moor (Alonge Hawes) at an electronics retail store called Legacy Wireless. Nandi has a carefree, fun-loving personality as evidenced by her love of anime and random inside jokes. Julian Robinson will play Henry Gil Scott Heron, an unabashedly “Pro-Black” co-worker of Anansi and Nandi who believes that he is the illegitimate son of renowned poet/author Gil Scott Heron, and as such dreams of owning his own poetry lounge.

Shani Hawes is perhaps best known for co-starring as Asha Luna on her brother Alonge Hawes’s digital series Blue Collar Hustle, for which she was awarded Best Actress by the Virgin Spring Cinefest in 2018. She also starred in Live Arts Theater’s 2017 production of Children Of Eden, for which she was named Best Actress by the company.

Julian Robinson is a relative newcomer. He made his onscreen debut in the supporting role of Jude Eubanks on the second season of Blue Collar Hustle, for which his performance was critically acclaimed.

Hawes is repped by Alima Industries while Robinson is repped by RogueAlien Productions.

The series is expected to premiere this fall on Seeka.tv; a next generation curated platform providing access to the most popular and critically acclaimed independent web series across the globe. The platform boasts nearly 2,000 episodes across more than 150 shows. Seeka.tv offers free viewership from both its online source as well as apps available on iOS, Roku, Amazon Fire, and Android. Jairus Burks (Greenwood, Blue Collar Hustle, CreamXCoffee) will serve as Director Of Photography. Alonge Hawes, in addition to serving as Creator/Director, will serve as Show-Runner for the series. Hawes will executive produce the project alongside George Reese (Utopia Planitia). Jamal Mcclendon, Shani Hawes, and Rodderick Fedd will serve as producers.
