He’s on a short list of my Black political male role models with Dinkins and Wilder. I’m surprised at how negative some of you view him. I was under the impression he was mislead about the WMDs in Iraq and was the fall guy for Cheney/Rumsfeld.

He’s still complicit in what transpired as he went up to the UN and lied on their behalf even when he knew the truth beforehand about what he was going to say. Him willingly doing their bidding set the chain in moment that caused innocent people to die.

i hated his political positions but he was a good man, honorable soldier, and effective general. it's a travesty he didn't retire with a five star rank, he was slated for one but clinton robbed him of it cause he thought he'd run against him in '96.

5 star is a weird rank tho that doesnt really exist.

he had access to the same intel as cheney, rummy & bush.
they were all pressuring the CIA to find a reason to invade Iraq.

With his considerable rhetorical skills, he told the UN Security Council on Feb. 5, 2003, that there was “no doubt in my mind” that Iraqi President Saddam Hussein was working to obtain the key components needed to produce nuclear weapons. The invasion of Iraq launched on March 20 with an air assault dubbed “shock and awe.”

Much of the evidence Powell cited was later shown to be faulty, and he told Barbara Walters in an interview in September 2005 that his speech at the UN was “a blot” on his career. “It will always be a part of my record. It was painful. It’s painful now.”

5 star is a weird rank tho that doesnt really exist.

The five star ranks were last used in World War 2, when it was necessary for theater commanders such as Dwight Eisenhower and Douglas MacArthur to hold a rank that was at least equal or senior to general officers of other nations under their command.

The Army rank of 5 Star General is only specifically handed out at wartime during the most extreme of circumstances. The title of the rank is General of the Army, but it is equivalent to Field Marshal in foreign services.

Five general officers held the rank during or after 1944 in WW2: George C. Marshall, Douglas MacArthur, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Henry H. Arnold, and Omar Bradley who was promoted to five star rank as an honorarium in 1950.

TYRONE GA!
Damn, :rip:

Glad he was able to save his rep by deflecting from the bush regime

He showed you can be a conservative without being a clown. The fact most of our people are conservative but don't fukk with Rethugs says enough about that party. There's always exceptions and I'm glad he was one of em.

RIP to a truly good man. :salute:
