My mom's Godfather ,Samuel O'Quinn was one of the members of the NAACP chapter in Mississippi. He owned numerous businesses in Southwest Mississippi, having over 20 acres of land in Mississippi. He was assassinated in 1959, when my mom was 5.

Though my mom's family and some relatives snuck out of Mississippi for California shortly after the murder for a better life, my mom and her brothers went back to Mississippi every year for Summer Vacation until the end of high school , all expenses paid.
Her Godmother, Quinn's wife, offered to pay for her college education to any institution in Mississippi or Louisiana but my Grandmother didn't want her to leave home for school
I need to have more sit down conversations about black history with my moms while she's still here. It's crazy how she'll talk about things that are

the best inside story I read was years ago on another forum...dude from the UK had a cuz’n who was a limo driver...the fact that stretch limos was a thing kind of gives you an idea of how long ago the story was...told a story of how DMX broke down in the limo and was crying and the driver suspected he was on crack from his actions/mannerisms... @ the time DMX drug history was not out there @ all to the point that the story was unfathomable to us and we accused dude of lying...in hindsight tho he was dead on point about that shyt
